03 / Experience

The path
to independent research.

Her education, early investment work, and the development of a team across finance and medicine.

Education

Economics and management.

Marlinde grew up in Istanbul and attended Istanbul International Community School. She came to the United States in 2003 to study at Stanford.

Her undergraduate work combined economics, statistics, and corporate finance, including coursework on capital structure and operating cash flow. During her MBA, she broadened that foundation to include organizational behavior, operations, and strategy.

2003–2007

Stanford University

B.A. in Economics

2008–2010

2010–2012London

Investment research at Bregal

She began her career at Bregal Investments in London, supporting fund research, financial analysis, and due diligence. She reviewed financial records, compared cash-flow assumptions, and prepared research for senior colleagues. The work taught her to examine investment performance alongside market conditions and future funding needs.

2012–2014Independent research

Independent financial research

After leaving Bregal, she continued her financial research independently. She also began exploring cancer research and targeted therapies through published literature and discussions with specialists. Former classmates and mentors became part of a continuing exchange of research and ideas, before a formal team was established.

2014–2016London & New York

Collaboration across disciplines

Working between London and New York, she explored how statistical modeling, machine learning, and text analysis could support financial and medical research. The work included organizing source material and identifying inconsistencies for further review. As these collaborations became more regular, discussions turned to shared data standards, responsibilities, and a permanent team.

2016Ruhr region, Germany

Founding the AI team

She established an 18-member team with dedicated AI Finance and AI Medicine departments. Its members worked in financial analysis, data engineering, modeling, and life sciences, with some mentors serving as research advisors.

2017San Francisco

Opening a US office

She opened a small San Francisco office with core team members, bringing research coordination and project management into one location. Colleagues in Europe continued to collaborate on existing projects.

2018–2023International collaboration

Building research capacity

As the team grew, it developed shared research records and access controls to support work across locations. From 2021 to 2023, that effort expanded to version histories and model evaluation, making it easier for colleagues to follow how an analysis had developed and continue work begun elsewhere.

A team of approximately 200

As of November 2026, the team includes approximately 200 staff members and long-term collaborators across several locations. Its main office is in San Francisco; the figure describes the wider team, including collaborators based elsewhere.

Her role today

Research leadership.

Marlinde focuses on research priorities, key talent, partnerships, and resource allocation. Project leads oversee the research itself, while executive leadership and team managers handle day-to-day operations.
